Iola Middle School’s seventh grade girl’s basketball teams hosted the “Pony Stampede” on Saturday.
“Our effort and defense was really good all day,” coach Marty Taylor said. “We just have to find a way to get the ball in the basket.”
The A-Team lost its first game against Pittsburg 27-4. Kelsey Morrison scored all four points and grabbed four rebounds. Sydnie Keagle grabbed five rebounds and Allie Fager came down with four rebounds.
The Ponies lost the third-place game to Chanute in double-overtime 20-18. Morrison scored five points and grabbed seven rebounds. Ella Taylor scored three points and had three rebounds. Allie Fager scored two points and grabbed three rebounds. Gaby Lampe scored five points, Nissa Fountain scored three points and Keagle grabbed six rebounds.
“I loved Gaby and Ella’s effort and toughness today. They were down on the floor after loose balls and working hard all day,” Taylor said.
“Nissa and Allie have really come a long way,” Taylor said. “They are both getting better every game.”
The B-Team lost its first game to Independence 28-15. Lexi Vega scored six points, Chrissy Helman scored four points, Gabby Richards scored two points, Elysia Kunkler scored two points and Sadrie Overall scored a free throw.
